Has talks released anything that will work for Verizon other then the HTC OZone?
Still useing an LG 5300 phone here.
Seems like if you aren't for an IPhone or Android, you may be screwed.

I to am with verizon am having the same issue. I am getting the htc ozone. You can find the phone on ebay or amazon and go to verizon's web site and have the talks downloaded. That is what I am going to do. The talks will cost just 100 dollars, I called and double checked before I buy the phone. I to am a button person. I like to text to much. The phone is still out there you just have to look for it.. Hope it helps and if you find something please let me know. I to could use info.

sadly the phones that talks and MS support most are windows mobile, and that's quickly being phased out. there may still be nokia phones out there, but i honestly don't know how long those will last

Considering the age range of most people on this website I can safely say this: Yes, accessibility is a challenge for us. Yes, in some cases you may need to pay more for it (Android to be precise). But Android and iOS are the only two real platforms being serviced now. Even my wife who is 45 and technologically not the most curious, is going to get an Android after the first of the year.
As to all this experimenting around? I'm floored. Most of us buy a phone, walk out of the store, and hope to use the damned thing. It's nice to have the luxury of a spare to just horse around with. I think what strikes me as odd in the so-called blind community is the way people just assume everyone is going to go out and play with multiple devices (how, exactly?), not need this device - remember it is a phone, not just a toy. The only way someone could do what many on here suggest is if that person lives with their parents, are independently wealthy, or through some other means not having to scrape it to get by like the rest of us.
The phone is only one of many reasons people choose a carrier, and although it's tough now, nobody wants to make a so-called dumb phone accessible anymore.

Nokia phones do not work with Verizon. I know you can find older HTC ones out there, however I was just curious to see if there was anything new.

Nope, I have not found anything, just the iphone and the android. I don't have that kind of money. i just bought the htc ozone for 60 dollars on amazon and will download talks on it later on. I rather spend that kind of money on something more important.

you'll regret that choice, the ozone is very slow especially once a screen reader is installed on it, and companies will not help you with them anymore.

Companies such as who?
Nuonce?

I used the OZone for a while and hated it. I could text on it, but the keyboard set up was hectic at best. I don't think there was a day that the screen reader didn't mess up in some way or another. Plus, the hardware on the phone is horrible. There is no headphone jack or anything of that nature on the actual phone. For that you have a device that plugs into the charger port and is about the size of a lighter or small MP3 player. It sticks out a good four inches from the bottom of the phone. It doesn't sound like much perhaps, but try putting it in your pocket. The only thing that I wanted a phone like that one for, which I was actually able to do, was text. I couldn't browse the web easily enough to make it worth doing, and many of the programs are unusable with talks.
My best advice for you, get used to not having buttons. Buttons are becoming obsolete. A touch screen is a lot easier to make, and actually a lot more reliable than buttons are. Eventually your going to have to adapt.

Well considering my hearing impairment makes it so that I can only understand elaquence that is also the main recent I wanted a phone that supports talks.
Can't you hook up a differ
eny keyboard to it to text if you so wanted too?
Thanks all for your help!

sorry Radio, but have you consider using a bluetooth keyboard in any of the touch phone? from my understanding, even Nokia is headng to be buttonless very soon. and also, if your impairement allows you to pick up elequence i'm just wondering, have you try other voices such as voice over for example? there're plenty of voice to chooce from, and perhaps one might be suitable for you.

i know most LG Phones now also heading tto be buttonless.

sorry, it seems, there's no good news here :)

good luck

Then can I suggest a android phone although you said earlier no but I hate saying this touch screens are here to stay but they come with a keyboard in android land. Well let me clarify some do come with keyboards.

Oh, you have a choice on what voice you would like to use, I hope this is coming in IOS 5.

John, good morning to you. Suggestion: Wait just a bit until the iPhone 5 comes out. I have not heard anything here but I'm hopeful that there may be some new voices that might meet your needs. IN OS10 lion they have introduced new voices some of which are called compact meaning that they are for devices with les resources. Apple is doing lots of work in licensing nuance technology and my hope is they will put some of those compact voices in to the iPhone. At that time you can go to an apple store and listen to them to see if they are easier for you to hear. Although many prefer buttons the extremely sad truth is windows mobile is going away, windows phone 7 is not yet accessible and although many seem to be able to use Android in my personal opinion and I qualify this as my opinion, when it comes down to getting things done quickly I have not found the tools offered for android to be effective. yes, there is mobile accessibility which works well in it's own shell however once you have left the shell you are back to the same limitations. It's not the screen readers fault it's the accessibility of android that needs to be improoved. So far the iPhone wins hands down. it's current, being improoved constantly and will be around for years to come. If you like keyboards there are many solutions from using an external keyboard to using a case such as the boxwave buddy that has a fold out keyboard that uses blue tooth to pair with the phone. You also have great braille support both input and output plus a growing variety of accessible apps. Ya just can't beat the thing right now. Hopefully wp7 and Android will catch up but if you want it to work out of the box it's the iPhone.
